Frequently asked questions about your session…
What will you bring, and what do I need to provide?
During your session I will provide all necessary supplies including massage table/chair, linens, oil/lotion, relaxing music, and aromatherapy/essential oils (optional). You will need to provide a space for your session and, of course, yourself! Since your session will take place in your own environment you get to decide how warm or cool it will be during your massage, what kind of lighting you prefer, whether you like candles/incense, etc. Also if you have your own music or oil you’d like to use that is fine! This is YOUR session!
What should I do during the massage session?
Relax and focus on your breathing! Deep breathing during your massage calms you and increases the oxygen in your body, which allows your muscles to release tension. I may coach you to deep breath through particularly tight areas. At some points I may gently move you (i.e. lift your arm, etc.), but there is no need to help me, unless I instruct you to. Communication is extremely important! I will generally ask you several times how the pressure is, but it is up to you to tell me if I hit an area that is sore or if I need to adjust my pressure. Feedback is great during your session so that adjustments can be made accordingly. I cannot read your mind, although I am quite intuitive and can read your facial expressions and body language well (i.e. if you squint your face I can usually tell I hit a tender area and may need to back off on the pressure a bit). You are more than welcome to talk during your massage, stay silent, or fall asleep. It all depends on your personal preference!
A brief synopsis of what a session may look like:
I will arrive at your home. As I set up my equipment (this takes 5-10 minutes) I may have you fill out an intake form (if you are a new client). This is also a good time to go to the restroom, grab a glass of water, silence your phone, and anything else you would like to do to prepare for your session. I will then look over your intake form and ask you about the areas of your body you may be experiencing soreness or pain. Then I will instruct you on how to get on the table. I will leave the room so that you can disrobe to the point you feel comfortable and get under the top sheet. When I return, we will begin the session. Once the session is over I will quietly let you know and leave the room again. Once you are off the table and dressed I will break down my equipment, pack up and leave you to enjoy the relaxed state you are in! No need to drive home… you are already there!!! Always make sure to drink lots of water on the day of your massage, and occasionally I may instruct you to ice certain inflamed areas.
What does disrobe mean? Do I have to get undressed?
As explained above, I will leave the room, and you will undress to the point you feel comfortable and get under the top sheet. You will be covered at all times, with only the area being worked on exposed. For example, when I’m working on your back, that is all that will be uncovered. Massage is traditionally done unclothed. You are welcome to leave on your underwear or any other articles of clothing you do not feel comfortable removing, but once again, you will never be completely exposed.
